Issues
Jeanne will work hard to earn your vote and she will fight for you in the General Assembly. She understands your priorities – job creation and retention, education, State Employees and Teachers, training opportunities for all, fiscal responsibility. Jeanne has long had a passion to serve the public and has done so in her professional work, charitable work and as an elected leader.
“Jeanne Bonds was an advocate for the people of Knightdale. She put the Town on the map! Her tireless efforts resulted in a well-planned community, economic growth, diverse housing and a high quality of life. She was instrumental in the Environmental Park and the creation of the Public Safety Department. I expect her to bring the same strength to the NC House and the same results to the people in eastern Wake County.” Knightdale Mayor Pro Tem Mike Chalk.
“I had the honor of being Mayor of Knightdale after Jeanne served as Mayor. She served the community with great passion and made a positive difference in a growing town that can be felt today. I have no doubt she will be a positive force in the NC House and we will reap the benefits.”
Former Knightdale Mayor Doug Boyd
“Jeanne did a truly extraordinary job representing the NC Courts as Deputy Director before the General Assembly. I have no doubt she will bring the same energy and success in service to the people of Wake County in the NC House.” Former NC Supreme Court Chief Justice Burley B. Mitchell, Jr.
Public Education
Jeanne Bonds is the result of a public education in North Carolina from first grade through graduate school. The diversity she experienced in her public education enriched her life with new experiences and lifelong friends, many of whom are helping her on this campaign.
She entered first grade as segregation ended in New Hanover County Schools. Her hero is her first grade teacher, Mrs. Eva T. Williams, who is one of her supporters! You will often hear Jeanne quote Mrs. Williams, “Every child is different. I have to find a way to reach all of them. It is vital to a child’s self-esteem to achieve.” Jeanne’s Mother-in-law was also a first grade teacher for 27 years.
Jeanne has been in the classroom, reading to students and talking about her experiences as Mayor Pro Tem and Mayor. She taught her niece’s (Kasey Milliken) geometry class using examples from city planning thanks to Brynn Hall, the teacher. And, Jeanne mentors children in a range of subjects because she knows that mentoring can change a life by increasing self-esteem and helping a child achieve.
Jeanne will be an outspoken advocate for resources for schools, support for teachers and school employees, and consideration of all State employees at the beginning of the budget process. As a former State employee and advocate for resources for the NC Courts, she understands the budget and appropriations process and will be a committed advocate for resources for our schools.
Jeanne understands that our children are our workforce of tomorrow and she will be an advocate for resources for public education to create that flexible workforce for the future. Salaries, Resources, Safety, Benefits. These are the issues. But educators and children are the faces of education and education is the tool that shapes lives and changes lives.
Job Creation and Training for ALL
Jeanne is an innovator focused on new job creation and training opportunities for everyone. Small and mid-size businesses create the majority of jobs and new job growth for the state. Jeanne has experience working with small and mid-size businesses — helping them with technical resources, alternative lending programs (Federal and State), access to grant opportunities with communities, and creating jobs. Jeanne is a motivated policy-maker eager to create a climate where new and existing businesses thrive in North Carolina.
Along with the creation of jobs is training. North Carolina’s Community College System, with whom she has worked closely over the years, is an incredible asset in our State. Technological innovation, new manufacturing processes. Our State has tremendous potential to create jobs and expand training opportunities. Entrepreneurship is alive and well. We need to add new tools to match entrepreneurs with our intellectual property to stimulate small and mid-size business development and promote the commercialization of new products. Jeanne is confident our State can be the leader in the economic recovery and set the course for new manufacturing.
In Knightdale, Jeanne was involved at the onset of the Business Expo, which has become an annual event for the Chamber of Commerce. She created, with another former Mayor, the Town’s first Economic Development Committee which hosted a forum to encourage new growth in business development. As a professional Jeanne has worked in distressed communities on development initiatives. As an experienced local leader in Knightdale – Council Member, Mayor Pro Tem, Mayor – Jeanne generated results. And, with local elected experience former Mayor Bonds is fiscally responsible and able to budget for priorities.
Jeanne understands that new jobs and job training also lead to the need for new transportation alternatives. As Mayor of Knightdale she promoted Eastrans, a commuter rail line project. It is not enough to create jobs and job training; we must be able to easily connect the workforce with the jobs.
State Government Employees and NC Teachers
Our State Employees are the people you see every day – your child’s teacher, the transportation worker in the Work Zone, the examiner at the driver’s license office. But they are also the faces you do not see – the correction officer who ensures public safety, the analyst who evaluates information on city water systems, the emergency management teams working in a storm to coordinate efforts to get supplies when you need them.
These individuals are serving the public. We depend on their services. Our State needs to consider these public servants in the budget at the beginning of the process, not the end. What successful business considers its employees last?
As a former State employee and a former Deputy Director at the Courts, Jeanne understands that State employees and NC Teachers need a voice, an advocate in the Legislature. While working in the Courts, Jeanne worked to get funding for pay plans for different groups of employees within the Judicial Branch of Government. Jeanne will stand up for teachers and State employees. Health plans, benefits, pension plan, living wages. These are the issues but behind every issue is the face and a story of an individual caring for their family and taking pride in their work.
